Cell Sorter Operator and Flow Cytometry Lab Manager

Washington University in St. Louis

The Flow Cytometry Core Facility, within the Department of Pathology and Immunology at Washington University in St. Louis is seeking a full time and trained Cell Sorter Operator and Flow Cytometry Lab manager.
 
Responsibilities include independent operation and scheduled maintenance of BD FACSAria II cell sorters and analyzers (LSRII , FacsCanto and FacsCaliburs).  The candidate must be willing to work with BSL2 and supervise/ advice BSL3 sortings of biohazardous infectious material. He/she will also evaluate and troubleshoot problems, assist in experimental design and protocol development, data acquisition and analysis. He/she will supervise a junior operator that will be responsible for BSL2/BSL3 sortings and will train post-docs and research assistants to use a self- operated BSL2 FACSAria II.
 
Requirements: Bachelor's degree in science required, M.S. preferred. Must have general lab experience working with cell cultures and cells ex vivo. Experience in flow cytometry, including operating a BD FACSAria II cell instrument is required for this position. Computer competency in both PC and MAC systems and relevant computer programs is a must. Must have ability to work independently, good verbal communication skills, and ability to interact successfully with a broad range of individuals within the University, high attention to details. Willingness to work flexible/late shifts necessary.

Job Summary

This position will provide daily oversight and management of the Research Core Laboratory and provide technical expertise in the area of flow cytometry through the operations of two flow cytometers/cell sorters. It is intended that this position will manage and guide the daily operations of the Research Core Laboratory facilities and equipment in order to provide the faculty at SIU School of Medicine with the required resources for research conduct. Will have direct oversight responsibility including, but not limited to, coordinating budgeting and billing; providing educational and research support to facutly, staff and studnet; assisting in preparation of publications; assisting in preparing share instrumentation or facility improvement grants; and promoting the use of the core laboratory in conjunction with the Director. Minimum Qualifications

    Cell Sorter Operator - New York City

    The Flow Cytometry Core Facility, within the Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons is seeking a full time Cell Sorter Operator. This state-of-the art research core facility has three BD FACSAria cell sorters, a BD LSRII, a BD FACSCalibur and BD FACScan. Primary responsibility includes daily calibration, operation, and maintenance of the BD FACSAria cell sorters, BD LSRII, BD FACSCalibur and BD FACScan. He/She will perform flow cytometric analysis and sorting of cell populations based on surface markers and/or intracellular probes. The incumbent will provide training and technical assistance in instrument operation and data analysis using BD FACSDiVa, CellQuest PRO, or FLOWJO software. Duties include maintaining laboratory quality control records, supply inventories, and instrument usage logs. Duties also include compliance with established laboratory safety procedures and performing other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline.

    Minimum Experience: Salary will be commensurate with flow cytometry experience. Knowledge of flow cytometry applications, DiVa software, and experience in cell sorting on a research instrument is desirable. Training will be provided.

    Responsible for providing on-site support to BD customers that includes, but is not limited to: installation and service of diagnostic instrumentation, after-hours phone support, holiday and weekend on-site support, marketing, exhibitions, and clinical trials support.

    Install and service instrumentation with minimum direct supervision, as requested, by the Service Center in accordance with current ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards. Provide follow-up service by calling customers who have recently been provided service. Ensure service was complete and satisfactory to the customers' needs. Properly maintain car stock inventory, test equipment, tools, and technical data. Complete service documentation, as required, by the position function or requested by System Support Engineering Manager in accordance with current GMP requirements. Display maturity and judgment in time management and expense control. Maintain expense levels within the established guidelines for field service travel and sites visits. Report quality control and other technical problems, in detail, to the Service Center and System Support Engineering Manager.Properly maintain and utilize company vehicle as outlined by current Corporate fleet policy.Interface effectively with other departments and managers to resolve customer problems and issues.Perform other duties as assigned. Accountable for providing support to customers that meet BD standards ofsuperior quality service at all times. Accountable for Company issued credit cards, travel advances, company
    vehicle, trunk stock of spare, and repair parts. As a representative of BD, promote and maintain good customer relations through high standards of personal appearance, ethical behavior, maturity and good judgment. This position is to be located in New York.

    Qualifications:
