Job Requirements:

 

The position requires a minimum B.S. or M.S. in the areas of Cell Biology, Immunology, or related areas with 2 years of additional research or industry experience.  The candidate should have practical hands on experience in Flow Cytometry and Immunoassays.   Experience in supporting clinical trials and basic tissue culture skills are a plus.  Excellent problem solving skills coupled with strong oral and written communication skills are a must. Duties And Responsibilities

The ability to analyze and sort cells according to their level of fluorescence is an increasingly important tool in many areas of quantitative biology. The Systems Biology Department is seeking a Flow Cytometry Specialist to support members of the Department in developing and implementing new applications of this technology. This individual will set up and maintain a new facility including BD FACSCalibur, BD SORP LSRII with HTS, and the BD FACSAria instruments. S/he will serve as a source of expertise for users planning cell sorting experiments, and help them troubleshoot problems that arise; s/he will maintain and calibrate all instruments regularly, and perform cell sorting for some facility users. S/he will be fully responsible for the daily business of the facility, including training new users, negotiating maintenance contracts, working with IT to develop infrastructure for server-based management of data and interacting with vendors and field service engineers. This is a flexible position in a rapidly-growing department, and could be appropriate for a recent Ph.D. with an interest in combining part-time research activities with an organizational role.

 

Required Education, Experience and Skills

Basic qualifications: B.S in biological or physical sciences with 3+ years of relevant experience. Additional requirements: 2-3 years experience in flow cytometry applications and demonstrated proficiency with cell staining techniques for flow applications, acquisition and analysis of data, data management, and presentation. The ideal candidate will have experience with BD instruments and acquisition and analysis software (CellQuest Pro, FACSComp, and Diva).

We have a very vibrant facility at Yale, with over 120 lab units that use one or another of our services and over 700 registered users. We have 4 sorters and 8 analyzers, including 3 LSRIIs that we oversee, as  well as a Bio-Rad Bioplex machine and user workstations for data analysis. JOB SUMMARY:  The successful candidate will be responsible for initially starting up and subsequently managing a Flow Cytometry Lab poised for very rapid growth.  This lab will focus on high complexity leukemia/lymphoma profiles. The scope includes sample preparation, flow cytometric acquisition and analysis, as well as documenting quality control and ensuring overall laboratory quality.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  Individual must be self motivated, will be hands on initially in the set up and running of the lab.  Will take part in validations, writing SOP’s and getting the lab ready for CAP/CLIA certification.  Looking also for an individual who is Innovative as you will be creating a lab that you will eventually be managing. There will be close collaboration with the hematopathology staff.

 

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

·         Experience w/ assay optimization, validation and antibody cocktailing

·         Clinical Exp but with oppty for Research

·         Experience with flow cytometry specifically Hemotologic Malignancies

·         Exp with BD instrumentation and software a + but not required

·         Knowledge of CAP/CLIA requirements for flow cytometry testing

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·         BS  degree in relevant science

·         ASCP Certification in Medical Technology

·         Min 5yrs experience in Flow Cytometry in a Clinical setting
